The App Store copies gives me this error. How can I update if I can't get a good copy to update with?

The error message is badly worded and misleading.

What it really means is the App Store has detected a copy of the Install macOS High Sierra.app

in your Applications folder or somewhere else on your mac.

Locate it, move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Connect your mac to the router via cable.

Restart your mac, go back to the App Store High Sierra download page.

It will now say Get or Download not Open as before.

Do not use the mac while it is downloading or any other devices that share the same

internet connection.
