Drag and Dropping items on desktop

I want to drag and drop items on my desktop (I have a 2017 MacBook). I never used to have an issue, but now when I try to organize my desktop and place items into a folder, a preview just opens up automatically. How do I just drag and drop items on my desktop into a folder already on my desktop without opening up a preview?

MacBook, macOS 11.3

Open System Preferences> Accessibility> Mouse & Trackpad

Go to Spring loading delay , check the box and use the slider to

move from Short to Long to find you favoured time delay when

folders open.

The longer the delay will allow you to drop file into a folder on the Desktop

without the folder opening too quickly.
