As you have learned, your iPad Air 2 can display videos that are originally recorded in 4K but they are displayed in 1080p on your iPad’s screen. The iPad Air series have no problem to playback 4K video footage but it will scale down the 4K video to 1080p resolution, since the maximum of display screen resolution of iPad Air 2 is only 2048x1536.
