It is NOT a false detection. Rather than believing MacOS, you have chosen dubious snake-oil salesmen as your trusted companions.

"xxx will damage your computer" only says that the software you are trying to execute is not fully signed and notarized and supplied by the Mac App Store. You can open it if you wish.

Is it possible this is a false detection? I just got the same error this morning. The file appears to be part of the Cisco Anyconnect VPN software that I have installed. I've had this installed for a few years now.

I scanned with Norton, and norton finds no threats. So I see two possibilities:

  1. False malware detection by Apple.
  2. My VPN software is somehow compromised and Norton just doesn't know about the threat yet.


Just curious, do you also have Cisco Anyconnect installed?
