When using carplay for navigation or spotify, my iPhone XR gets very, very hot!

From our understanding, your device is getting very hot when using CarPlay. We can certainly understand your concern and are here to help.

Just to clarify, does the system temperature reach a level to where it can burn you? Also, what is the temperature of the car cabin when this happens? We ask this because the device will need to operate at a certain ambient temperature.
