The commands and pin typing work but it won’t let me type normally

My keyboard doesn’t work when I want to type things out normally . It only works for shortcut commands and when entering the PIN number to unlock my iPad. Why does this happen?

Try and Force restart iPad

On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

No. I have one and it is not faulty.

Can you have your iPad and the Magic Keyboard (if this is the keyboard that you have and are referring to) examined at the Apple Store or at an Authorized Service Center for further diagnosis and resolution?

Yes i have to do that every time and its very annoying because it can happen during lectures and it takes a while to force restart my ipad every time.

Are all the keyboards sent out just faulty?

No there are no such stores in the whole of New Zealand and we are currently in lockdown in Auckland because of COVID.
