Apple pen gapping

theres a small problem I’ve tried fixing with my apple pen and it keeps “gapping”

basically, I draw a straight or curved line but instead of it being full, my apple pen Gaps it, leaving a huge gap in the middle and tiny dots then it continues the line. It’s really irritating and I’ve tried disconnecting and reconnecting the pen, removing and replacing the tip but it doesn’t seem to work.

just some examples below.

is my apple pen broken and do I have to replace it? Or is there something I can do?

it would really help if you could let me know what you know about this problem, pens vital for a lot of my work xP

Hello Zukuio,

We see you're having issues with your Apple Pencil, and we'd like to help out.

You've tried some good steps already. Have you also been able to try restarting the iPad itself since noticing this? If not, give that a try: Restart your iPad

Also, which particular version of iPadOS is installed? You can double-check in Settings > General > About.

Be sure to also try testing this out in a different app when you get the chance, just to see if the issue persists there as well.

Take care.

Hello!

I have reset my iPad before and it only made the gapping worse, and it happens on anything that requires an Apple pen

IBS paint

Procreate

and One note (+small dots) are some of the ones I use most

The software version is 14.7.1 and it updates every night there’s an update

I’ll try and force restart it and see how it goes

If you need more detailed info, just let me know. These are just the answers to your questions :)

That’s weird,

I have two iPads and two apple pens both of the same generation..

my (#1) Personal iPad and apple pen work fine, even with Ibis paint.

My (#2) school iPad is the problem, and the apple pen isn’t working with anything!

I don’t get what’s going on D:

Zukuio,

Thanks for trying the suggested steps out, and providing the additional info.

Have you had a chance to try using your personal Apple Pencil on the school iPad, or use the Apple Pencil from the school on the personal iPad, if possible? If so, that would just help to isolate this down further, to see which component (iPad or Apple Pencil) may be the specific cause.

As re-pairing the Apple Pencil and replacing the tip didn't help, then it's possible that the Apple Pencil could need servicing. If this is owned by the school, you may wish to check with them for options. You may also try reaching out to Apple Support directly to explore available options in the region: Get Support

Zukuio,

Good work on getting that isolated down.

It does appear that the issue looks to be with the school's Apple Pencil. You may try checking with them to see if they have particular steps for servicing/replacement. If they don't, then you can reach out here to Apple Support to explore available options in the region: Get Support

Have a good one.
