OS X version update

I am using MacBook Pro and right now the OS X version is 10.9.5, how to update to latest version 10.11 or above ?

You can only update to the latest revision of the same major version.


To change major versions requires an UPGRADE, which feels like a new purchase, but luckily is on sale for $0.


Use the links in this article to download and install 10.11 El Capitan. Because it includes an Improved Mac App Store, It is recommended a waypoint to install later versions, if you wish to do that later.
