Unable to receive calls from certain people

I have gone through an iPhone 7, XS, and 11 with service through Verizon, then T Mobile, Signal, and back to Verizon. During all this time my phone works fine, except my mom and a few others have reported they cannot call me. They can text and FaceTime me but the call says I’m unavailable. I had big news coming from a 4 star admiral and he was unable to get through, so this is a problem and it’s not a blocked number or the service providers issue. Nor is it something that can be fixed by deleting contacts and adding them back as contacts I don’t have can’t call.

thoughts?

When you set up a new phone by transferring content from a previous phone then all of the settings are carried over. However, settings are not saved in iCloud, so if you did not transfer your content but set up the new phone as New without restoring a backup then the settings will be the defaults, and Silence Unknown Callers will be on as it is the default.

The other thing to check is Settings/Phone/Call Blocking & Identification to see if you have any 3rd party apps that you set up to block calls.

the call cannot be completed as dialed Is a message from the calling carrier; it has nothing to do with the phone. It means that the number is being rejected by your carrier, or that the Area Code/Exchange is not in their Terminating Point Master database. You need to contact your carrier to resolve it. Can you call your phone from other phones, either mobile or landline?

Go to Settings/Phone and turn off Silence Unknown Callers. Also go to Settings/Do not disturb and turn it off, and also turn off scheduled.

It’s not who you are with, it’s who your mom has as a carrier. It is their database that is not correct.

There are no third party apps and it’s not a blocked contact thing because I can receive texts and FaceTime with the contacts who can’t call. Just called from my mom’s phone again to check and the message is that the call cannot be completed as dialed.

I traveled internationally with some older versions of iPhone if that helps any.

That is the issue. Almost everyone can call me anytime. Certain people like my mom have been unable to call me regardless of whether I was with Verizon, T-Mobile, or Signal. But they can FaceTime and iMessage.

So I feel the issue is an Apple issue and that I wouldn’t get anywhere calling Verizon, which I’ve done in the past. It has been about 5 years that my mom and a friend of mine hasn’t been able to call and that was an iPhone 7 with verizon, a XS with Verizon, an 11 with verizon, switched to Signal then T-Mobile and now back to Verizon.

Those were already where you wanted me to set them. If it’s a setting thing it would have to be a setting carried over by iCloud because I’ve had new phones.

But the friend who cannot call has Verizon. I will check with ATT who my mom has to see what they say.

You can feel all you want, but that won’t change the fact that it is a carrier issue. That message is generated by the carrier of the caller.
