Turn off/remove Color Gradients? [System-wide]

Icons such as shortcuts, the app store, mail, mail, camera, safari, etc. all have a color gradient that is a part of their design - where the color will shift from light blue to dark blue as you look across the icon [for example]. Another example is the shortcuts icon that uses color shifts as a part of their design. Is there a way to simplify this to a limited palette of flat colors?

I am aware that I can create shortcuts and input my own icons, but that only solves the home screen [I only use one page]. I can use multiple pages, but there are times where I will need to access the system menu and be subjected to the gradients/color shifts again.

I would like to know how to implement a system-wide filter that removes gradients. It would be much easier on my eyes.

I am already using a color filter [all hues of green] that has greatly improved my experience, but I would like to stamp out the outliers as well [the system icons mainly - blurs do not bother me a ton. Smoothing this out as well would be a plus].

I do not want this

Something in this direction - not necessarily black/white, I am aiming for a palette that is flat and limited.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope someone can help!

Hello,

Thanks for the reply - I have most of these options activated to some degree. The change I have made since reading the article is removing transparency, which has helped with the app library a ton, so thank you :-)

I am thinking that the issue stems from design/color choices of the icons themselves. I am no longer sure that there is anything that will selectively target/simplify/flatten icons that have made use of gradients/color shifts. At least nothing I can simply toggle through the settings menu.

Another example:

The weather widget employs a color gradient as part of its background [not good], but tapping on the widget to full screen flattens the background to one consistent color [good].

I tried reducing the white point as far as the system would allow, but the gradients persist. I also tried different color filters/tints, but the other options have a "glare" that makes the overall experience markedly worse [not that any of them resolved the gradient problem to begin with]. Green continues to be the best color tint option for me. This has also greatly improved my viewing experience of videos/movies.

[I work at a computer for a living, so being able to wind down with a screen where colors do not feel assaulting means a lot. Nightlights/tints do this to a degree, but I have found the green tint to be much better. I know the best option would be to not look at a screen at all, but my issues with RSI mean that other such hobbies are limited to say the least.]

I tried greyscale and inverting colors with maximum white point reduction, but I would like to keep my screen as dark as possible. Also, these settings intensified the gradients, making the trials a moot point.

Would you know of any apps that target and remove gradients? An overlay of sorts, maybe?

Thanks again,

DC
