Why is there an IEMI number displayed for my Digital SIM if I never requested a second line or one to ever be set up?

Upgrading to Iphone 12 through the app on my phone does not read the e-sim to be ready on 10.16 pre order I was following the upgrade process through the apple store app, to be ready to preorder, but I get stock in the confirmation the carrier step, the app look for the physical sim to get the number but I have a e-sim and the app does not recognized it. There is no way to type the wireless number, only the last 4 digits of my SSN and can not continue with the process. There is a way to tell the app that the phone has e-sim? there is a way to type the number? Thank you Pedro

Because it exist.

The number is tied to the hardware and has nothing to do with whether you have an active account on it.
