How do I get that white square on my iPhone to work. Right now it’s black and when I press it it just brings me back to the home screen and doesn’t take any pictures to go to my photos

It’s a floating square that if you put your finger on it it moves around the screen but if you press it it will take a picture of whatever is on the screen and put it in my photo album. I had it before but I got problems with my phone and I don’t know how it got messed up but the little square is there but every time I press it it just brings me back to my home screen with all the apps
What square are your referring to? Can you post a screen shot?
