USB-C to HDMI adapter not working (2021)

A couple of weeks ago I bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter from an Apple Store and it does not seem to work with my Macbook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports). Every time I plug it in, even without the HDMI on the other side, the message "USB accessories disabled. Unplug to accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices" pops up and it disables that port.

I've tried with some of my friends macbooks and happens to theirs too. I saw this old post USB-C to HDMI adapter not working - Apple Community, which is the same problem I have now, but there wasn't any solution.

I don't understand how a product sold in an Apple Store doesn't work with an Apple product.
