Macbook pro - M1 vs Intel Core i7

Looking for a new Macbook. Im primarily going to use it for school, FCPX and Adobe Lightroom.

Not sure if i should by the Macbook Pro with M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU or,

with 2.3GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz.

Any suggestions?

Comparing MacBook Pro and MacBook Air I am planning to purchase a new MacBook Pro 14" 8core cpu, 10core gpu, 8 gig mem, 512gig. I no longer do graphics (photoshop, illustrator, etc.) so I don't need a high performance device. I see that a MacBook Air with about the same specs as the Pro costs considerably less. What would I give up in performance with a MacBook Air? In other words, why is it so much less than a Pro?

Worth upgrading from a Macbook Pro 16 (2000) I have a MBP 16 inch with 2.4 Ghz 8 core of intel i9 32 ram AMD Radeon Pro graphics card with 8 GB 5500. All is good (if noisy at times) and it burns through tasks like 4k video rendering in a fantastically pleasing way. Here's the thing, I realise now I would prefer a 14 inch for the smaller size. Does anyone know whether the top of the range configuration of a 14inch MBP with a new Apple processor M1 or M2 or whatever would match the performance of the MBP 16. Any thoughts really welcomed. Which is better, 2013 Mac Pro or New Macbook Pro? My current machine is a Mac Pro, late 2013 model, 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5, 64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 and a 1 TB SSD. I have owned it from new and it was originally a 6-Core, 16 GB machine that I upgraded to the current spec myself about a year ago. I run it with a Samsung Odyssey G9 C49RG90SSR screen these days which is about a year old and do mostly Adobe Creative Cloud work like Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreaweaver and Premier Pro, so a reasonably heavy workload. Runs sweet as a nut and is a decent machine. But, It's time to move up to a newer model, and I'm considering going laptop because nowadays I need the portability, but when at home can still run it with the same screen, wireless keyboard and mouse, just run it closed and then take it away when I need to. So, I'm considering MacBook Pro, 16", Apple M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD as the new contender. So, 2 questions... Given that both old and new have 64 GB RAM, which will perform better when old has 12-Core processor and new has 10-Core processor? I definitely am looking for an improvement in performance. And, I see that the Macbook Airs are now shipped with the M2 chip but this one has M1, so is the M1 superior to M2, or is it better and I should wait until the Macbook Pro is released with the M2? Thanks.

Hi,

If I were you, I will get M1 chip MacBook Pro, since it has future and faster if apps are ARM native, and finally Apple will stop to support Intel chip Macs when transition to M1 is finished.

If I were you I would ask the school for a recommendation about what computer is needed for your course of study. If you get a M1 computer and you need to run Windows apps you'll be sorry you got the M1.
