502 Bad Gateway
When I try to access appleid.apple.com on my iPad, I get a 502 Bad Gateway error message! I’ve tried my Chrome and Safari browsers and I’ve tried using my iPhone. Help!

A 502 HTTP error code would indicate that a server, that is acting as a gateway/proxy, got an invalid response from another another server upstream of it.
You mentioned that you are only having this issue when using a VPN through McAfee's SafeConnect app. My guess is that the issue would be the VPN server(s) that McAfee uses to provide the VPN tunnel between your iPad and itself.
If you try using another Wi-Fi, at a different location with this VPN enabled, does this issue still persist? If it does not, then the issue could be your local network's router that could be the culprit.

Thanks for your reply. I’m running iPadOS version 14.7.1 on my iPad (7th gen.). I tried restarting. I don’t have another WIFI to use.
HOWEVER, I have discovered that using my McAfee SafeConnect app (with a VPN for my devices) stops my access and turning it off does allow me to access the Apple website! Any suggestions before I reach out to McAfee?

We would like to see how we can help you with your iPad. Which iPadOS version are you currently running? Go to Settings > General > About for the version. Do you have a different Wi-Fi connection you can test the issue from? If you restart the iPad with the steps in this link, does the error return? Restart your iPad
