Speakerphone issues after updating

I once thought it was a fluke when daughters speaker function quit working after update, then the same thing happened to my wife, and now, I am the latest victim. Apple, there has to be something that is happening when you do the update, and then the speaker doesn’t work and the mic doesn’t work. Can make calls via apple watch or vehicle, but cannot have other party gear me when using only the phone. What is the issue here?

I've been an “Apple” junkie for almost 20 years, watches for family, MacBooks, iPhones & iPads. But I am literally going to have to rethink my choices, if every time you update for a watch, then the phone has issues and the only solution I am told, “purchase a new iPhone “?!

Does anyone know what is going on?

Sounds like the AudioIC hardware issue that happens to iPhone 7 models from impacts, drops, etc over time. You can:

  1. Do an out-of-warranty replacement of your iPhone.
  2. Trade in your iPhone towards a new one.
  3. Find a competent 3rd party repair site that can do the soldering repairs need, but no guarantees. Also, if you go this route Apple may refuse service on your iPhone in the future.
