Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

I believe we need to proceed with an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a useful App to diagnose and identify issues, both hardware and software. It is trusted by many users. Please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Navigate to: https://etrecheck.com and get the free version of EtreCheckPro.
  2. Download it. It is a free and trusted app. It is often recommended here on Apple Support Communities.
  3. Open EtreCheck, and before running the report, be sure to check “Allow full Drive Access” at the bottom of the EtreCheckPro window.
  4. Run the report, and put it in a post, as seen here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211. We will then examine the report for issues in your Mac.

Cheers,

Jack

Please start a new thread and post an EtreCheck report:

  2. Download it. It is a free and trusted app. It is often recommended here on Apple Support Communities.
  3. Open EtreCheck, and before running the report, be sure to check “Allow full Drive Access” at the bottom of the EtreCheckPro window.

Ideally this would be posted in a new thread, but we can still work with your issue.

Delete Intego and ALL of Intego's other Apps (Washing Machine, NetBarrier Web Extensions, ContentBarrier, etc.) [Instructions]

Then, follow this procedure:

  1. Use the uninstaller by Intego.
  2. Restart the Computer into Safe Mode, login, and restart back into normal mode.
  3. Use Find Any File to search for “Intego” and delete all files.
  4. Restart the Computer back into Safe Mode, login, and restart into normal mode.

Follow these steps for ALL anti-virus Apps, "cleaner" Apps, etc.

From here, Reinstall macOS to repair or reinstall any files that the anti-virus or cleaner Apps may have corrupted, deleted, modified, etc. If you're doing this, be sure you have a backup first!

Also, for future reference, I would not buy any more Western Digital My Passports & Toshiba drives. They are poor quality and the enclosures often fail.

Cheers,

Jack

Firstly, Big Sur 11.4 is out dated. The most recent version os Big Sur 11.5.2. That update should be installed it brings Bug Fixes and Security Fixes. Strongly suggest doing a Time Machine Backup  is very useful and can be used to Revert to Previous Working macOS

Once that is done - review the performance and if still very slow >>

Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. The application is free or paid from added features. Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ). It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software. The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information. Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.
