does big sur still support mid files in latest release

Upgrade to latest big-Sur 11.5.2 resulted in not being able to play .mid files on QuickTime player (10.5). Player comments with " not able to open file " xxx.mid". . File is incompatible with QuickTime player.

These files used to play normally.

Does anyone know if .mid files are still supported with big sur 11.5.2. If they are still supported, does anyone have a clue what to adept/change.

I have a macbook air 8,2 2019 release. (by the way garageband still plays the .mid files so they are not corrupted)

You will need a 64 bit MIDI player app for macOS Catalina or later. QuickTime 10 isn’t that – MIDI playback was dropped from this app after version 7.

Search ‘MIDI’ on the Mac App Store, or e.g. try APPlayMIDI from the open Github projects.
