older HP printer driver

I have an iMac with an M1 chip. I have attempted to download HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS from the support.apple.com page several times. While I get a "installation successful" message, the software is no where to be found on the computer afterwards. I have tried Command F and have looked in the Applications and Utilities folders.

Nor can I add either of my printers in System Preferences.

I got a link in the HP community forum but Apple won't allow it to download as it can't be scanned for malicious software.

Anyone have an answer?

Printer software is often installed in the ~/Library/Printers folder

If you have problems with the scanning look for the software in either the ~/Library/Image Capture/Devices folder or the /Library/Image Capture/Devices folder.

If you find them Control (right) - click on them and select open from the contextual menu.

Then try printing from an app and scanning from Image Capture.
