It sounds like you're still receiving emails from a blocked contact in the Mail app on your iPhone. We're glad you've connected with us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some guidance.
To begin, let's check to be sure the email address is indeed blocked by going to Settings > Mail, then under Threading, tap Blocked.
Next, once you've ensured the email address is listed as a blocked email address, let's take a step back to Settings > Mail > Blocked Sender Options, and make sure 'Move to Trash' is selected there instead of 'Leave in Inbox'.
"When you block an email, by default, it marks the message as Blocked but keeps it in your Inbox." Have a look at the 'Block senders' section of this link for more information:
