AirTag in Rental Car Tracking Me

Hi

Recently I rented a car for 1 day from a car-sharing platform. When I reached home, my iPhone began to popup screens and messages that "AirTag Detected Near You", "Allow Find My yo use Your location" and I wasn't sure why is it so.

I then went for the second drive for more than 5 hours, and I was surprised that it showed the route that I took. I parked the car in a quiet car park and heard a very faint 'peep' sound somewhere near to the hand brake.

May I ask what is the purpose of AirTag and why is it installed in the car? Is it that the owner can trace the car in the event that it is missing? If so, does it violate any privacy?
