Remove Apple Remote controls from Lock Screen

once you use the Apple Remote app on your iPhone to control an Apple TV, the Remote controls remain on your Lock Screen indefinitely. This means that simply using your iPhone to turn the volume up renders this massive control block on your Lock Screen with no way to remove it, short of rebooting the Apple TV. Surely there’s another way to get this off the Lock Screen when you’re no longer relying on it?

I stand corrected. I was not aware that “Control other Speakers and TV’s” was an actual button. I thought that was the name of the first menu. Selecting “Control other Speakers and TV’s” and then selecting iPhone does in fact hide the control widget. This effectively resolves the issue.

“iPhone” is not listed as another device I can control using the Remote when I select the blue Airplay icon. It does list other devices, such as other Apple TV’s. But not my iPhone.

Also of interest, once I’ve used the Remote app on my iPhone to control an Apple TV, if I then attempt to play music on my iPhone, it automatically gets AirPlayed to whichever Apple TV I last controlled with the Remote app. Once I did that, and then killed the Music app, the controls were removed. The downside of this is that the Apple TV was left with a blank screen.

Hello marcusdiddle,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to remove the playback controls for AirPlay that appears on the Lock Screen of your iPhone. We'll be happy to help.

From the photo you posted, we suggest selecting the blue AirPlay icon in the right corner. Then, select "Control Other Speakers & TVs" at the bottom of the device list and see if you can select your iPhone. Once that's done, you can lock your iPhone into sleep: Wake and unlock iPhone

Please let us know if these steps help to remove the playback control for AirPlay, from appearing on the Lock Screen of your iPhone.

Kind regards.
