filemaker pro 6

The program file maker pro 6 does not open on my Mac with Big Sur. I would like to export old files to a readable form in e.g. Text Edit, but it looks like I need to be able to open the Filemaker Pro application first. Is there a way to do this?

FileMaker Pro 6 is not a 64-bit application so you will be unable to open it on BigSur. I'm not sure if there is a converter out there or if a fmp 6 file can be opened by the latest version. 6 is almost 20 years old. Worst case, if you have the install discs, you could find an old Mac, install the software, and export your stuff.

Filemaker Pro 12 is only partially compatible with High Sierra and not at all with Mojave. You will nave to upgrade to FM Pro 16 or newer in order to work with Big Sur.

See if the Demo version offered at this Claris website will let you open your files and export as text or Excel or other format files: https://www.claris.com/trial/

Otherwise you'll need to get an external HD and restore your system and user data to it for the last backup made before you upgraded to Big Sur.
