The mid 2014 21.5 iMac can be updated all the way to the current macOS 11 Big Sur and will be supported for macOS 12 Monterrey when its released later this year.

To update to Big Sur follow the steps here: link-> How to upgrade to macOS Big Sur - Apple Support

To update to an older version, but still newer than Yosemite, see here: link-> How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

Do note that Catalina and Big Sur and the upcoming Monterrey will no longer run 32 bit apps which you likely have many of on your Yosemite installation.

You will have to verify your Apps, and make sure they are 64 bit and can run on Catalina or Big Sur, or look for updates or replacements for them.

Do note, Microsoft Office 2011 and earlier will no longer work, you will need to either buy a new (2019) version or subscribe to Microsoft's Office 365 option to get compatible versions of those apps.

See here for details: link-> 32-bit app compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later - Apple Support
