iPad Air 4 randomly shuts off and restarts

Purchased a new iPad Air 4 and it keeps randomly shutting off and restarts after color flashing across the screen and shows a dead battery upon restart for a minute then goes back to the prior charge level after a few minutes. Any ideas, I have already updated all software, forced restart, and erased everything on the iPad and started fresh. Very frustrating for a brand new iPad right out of the box. Any ideas how to fix or should I just return it?
