Accessories not supported

I got a new headboard and it happened to have a charging port built in. I’ve used it to charge my phone for over 2 weeks now. But in the last 2 days I’ve suddenly been getting the message ‘this accessory not supported’. It’s not the cord. I’ve checked. So it’s the port in the headboard. But how did it work for 2 weeks only to all of the sudden not work? What gives? And can I get around this so I don’t have to move my massive furniture around to plug my phone in?

suppose

it could be

  1. defect connector in the headboard
  2. dirt or lint in the iphones connector when that happens to me i resolve it by removing it with a match or toothpick
  3. a defect connector in the iphone
