Moving MOV back to iPhone

I downloaded a couple videos on my iPhone, then transferred them to Photos on my laptop. I put them into an album in Photos and then did a sync to my iPhone. While the still photos had no trouble syncing, some (but not all) of the videos returned an error saying that they were not copied to the iPhone "because it cannot be played on this iPhone".

It played fine on the iPhone when I first downloaded the file. It played fine in Photos on my laptop. Why would there be an issue putting it back on the same iPhone?

Hello rackity,

It looks like no one has responded to your question. Here are a couple things that might help others answer your question:

  1. What iOS version is installed on your iPhone?
  2. What computer do you have, Mac or Windows computer, and what software version is installed on that computer?
  3. What device took/made the video? Or is this from a website or other source?
  4. You mentioned you "downloaded" this video to your iPhone, can you just download it again?

Please provide as many details as you can and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Sorry, I thought some of those details were in my profile.

  1. iOS 14.7.1 (on an iPhone 8 for what it's worth)
  2. MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur 11.5.2, Photos 6
  3. It's from an iPhone app called Reface. Once you finished your pic, there is an option to save it to Photos on the iPhone. One thing I've learned since first asking is that apparently it makes a .gif file for videos
  4. Yes, I can always go back and remake the picture and redownload it. The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to have just a few albums that I keep in sync with the iPhone (sort of like choosing the pictures I want to keep in my wallet). It'd be nice to be able to add some particular favorites to the album, but it's not like my job depends on getting this to work.
