iPod nano 7th gen music

Can iPod nano 7th gen still sync (using lightning cable) from latest iTunes version in 2021?

I tried and a pop up window told me it didn’t recognise device. Im guessing if I downloaded an older version of iTunes it would be compatible and good to use?

Thanks I’ve since spoke with apple support who informed me the nano 7th gen has not been updated for 5 years so was placed into vintage last year. It no longer works with any of the iTunes versions on the apple site. I might have to download an older version if I can find it but don’t know which version it would be,have you any idea?

Some google research indicates version 12.6.5.3 since earlier versions don’t allow access to the music store but I’m no expert.
