how can I get photos off of iPod touch 4.2.1

I am trying to get photos off of an old iPod touch. It is not showing the full photo library on my computer. It is only showing two pictures that are in the “saved photos” album.

There are two locations on the iPod for "photos":

    1. Pictures, added to the iPod from your computer. You would have told iTunes which folder on your computer it should use to copy pictures from the computer to your iPod by using the Sync process. They cannot be retrieved from the iPod either by the same or any other iTunes. They should still be on the computer from which they were copied
    2. Photos, taken by your iPod's camera. This includes screenshots as well. They can be seen and retrieved by connecting the iPod to your computer and using your computer's file manager (on Windows, that's Windows' File Explorer). You will find them in the iPod's DCIM folder, and you can copy those photos and screenshots from the iPod to your computer

Note my use of "photos" and "pictures". To be clear:

    • a photo is taken by your iPod's camera. They are saved in the DCIM folder (along with screenshots, taken on the iPod) and can be copied from the iPod to your computer using the computer's file manager
    • a picture is something synchronised from your computer to the iPod. Although it may originally have been a photograph, it is now a "picture file", which could mean that it's a cartoon or drawing, rather than a photo

So where and how you're looking will determine whether you can copy the pictures off the iPod.
