iCloud Activation Lock

I purchased a IPad Air six years ago Apple have shown me tha they have a record of the purchase date .

Apple are aware that I had a IMac , Apple known. That I recently purchased a IPad Pro , Apple know that I have a IPhone se all registered at my current address , I wanted to give my granddaughter the IPad Air so she could enjoy, Apple made a Genius Bar appointment who reset the Ipad as new .

But because I could not remember what the ID/ PASSWORD was six years ago they would not assist any further unless I could produce the purchase receipt withe the serial number on it , As the Ipad was a present from. Wife I did not. Have it nor did she , she tried the store where she purchased it but with regret they was unable to assist , Keep in mind my loyalty to Apple they known my identity and history Apple will not assist by unlocking this device, they would prefer that I put a good working machine in the Garbage Bin , Keep in mine if this Ipad was not mind would I really expose myself in this way , come on Apple you have to be more reasonable to your loyal customers and not set a impossible target.

I am sorry but you need to remember this forum is for users like you to help other users like you. There is nothing we can do to help you with this. Here's what we know of Apple's criteria:

'Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch' is a security feature that's designed to prevent anyone else from using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, if it's ever lost or stolen. To learn more click here --> http://support.apple.com/HT201365

For an individual to remove an activation lock absolutely requires the information for the account that applied the lock. Click on this link to learn 'How to remove Activation Lock' --> https://support.apple.com/HT201441

If you do not know the required information and you are not the original owner, get the owner of the account to remove the lock or return the device for a refund or recycle it. The device is otherwise useless to you. If the owner is unknown and has not provided contact information as a message showing in the login screen, there is no way to contact the owner unless the person who gave you the device knows them.

Here are additional resources:

Help with a lost Apple ID or password:

• "If you forgot your Apple ID" [this is likely an email address you are using or used in the past] click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT201354

• "If you forgot your Apple ID password" click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT201487

If necessary and you are willing to wait, Apple can completely reset a device if a person can provide sufficient evidence of valid ownership. Do this online at: Activation Lock support request - https://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support Apple says, "Proof of ownership documentation is required," but does not state what currently constitutes proof. Prior to this new online service Apple typically required the original receipt issued by Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller and documented provenance (so typically it would be the original owner who does this, or a descendant with legal proof of ownership).

Recycle it.

Nobody here can help with this, and—as your discussions with Apple have been unsuccessful, with evidence of device ownership seemingly lacking—Apple will not unlock this device.

Apple has procedures for establishing ownership and unlocking that are intended to mitigate social engineering efforts.

You need the purchase receipt showing the serial number.

Or access to the Apple ID.

Or legal paperwork.

The iPad here is associated with a different Apple ID; with a different account.

Which means it is not connected with other local devices; with ownership differing from the other devices referenced here.

Recovering access to the forgotten Apple ID to then clear Activation Lock, and as you are probably already aware:

Would it be nice if this could be all more open and more trusting and with no need for passwords? Sure. If we didn’t need to secure and to encrypt our sensitive data and personal info? Yep. But that’s not the world we live in, and iPads can and do get stolen. If this were a lost or stolen iPad, you would not want Apple to grant access, right? Because that’s indistinguishable from the case we’re in here.

Given you have been through this “many times”, you’ll want to recycle the iPad.

It really doesn't matter how we feel about this. It won't make an iota of difference since it is Apple that has set the lock and only they can remove it unless you can come up with the information that locked it. If Apple won't do that then it is 101% between you and Apple. In fact until only a few months ago they didn't have an official lock removal service.

If you want to let Apple know how you feel then this user-to-user forum isn't the place to do it since this is purely for technical questions. Click on this link for Apple products feedback links --> http://www.apple.com/feedback/

All very interesting but I have been through this many times but Apple are blind to the facts I have written ,

its simple Apple was aware that I owned this Ipad but simply ignore all the facts and keep requesting what they know I can not produce , if I new about what find my device can do I would not have used it , I simply wish to pass my old Ipad over for others to use and I am not getting the assistance I would expect from Apple

Thank you for bothering to reply, But I fully understand the reasoning to a point However Apple know I owned the device at my current address and its unreasonable to expect someone to retain a purchase receipt for a such a long time.

there response to my emails have been no more than a trained Robot, I feel I am being heavily penalised for forgetting a very old ID .

I will sell my current Apple devices and move onto another provider

Best Wishes
