Updating apps

Why when I go to update a app on my phone or iPad, it asks for my ‘’iTunes” password (which also says if u have a iCloud it’s connected. Well when I put in my password for Apple it says it’s incorrect. But when I sign into my Apple, the password works. While I’m in my settings I go to apps, while still logged into my Apple, I go to apps, try to update a app. It ask for my password. I enter my Apple password and it tells me I’m incorrect. One, why do I need a password to update a app. Two, why is it not accepting my password when it says there all connected.

Hi eloise205,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Well, I may be wrong,

but it seems you may have changed your Apple ID or Apple ID password sometime.

You may need to update your Apple ID or password with everything Apple,.

This article (link below) from Apple support would help with that.

What to do after you change your Apple ID or password:

And

For downloading apps from the App Store

It seems Apple requires a valid payment method in your Apple ID account,

for the first time you use the App Store, or iTunes, even if you only download free apps.

First:

Check the payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID:

(Scroll down to find your country or region)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202631

Now you can:

Change, Add or Remove Apple ID Payment methods

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201266

After you have used the App Store or iTunes for the first time,

you can remove the payment method if you wish:

If you can't remove your last payment method or use no payment method with your Apple ID

https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT203905

Hope this helps you :-)

As described, you may be using a different AppleID account for the Apple App Store to that used for iCloud - which, whilst entirely possible, can introduce complications.

As for requiring the corresponding account password when purchasing, downloading or updating Apps, this behaviour is configurable. Many users choose to require a password for App Store downloads as this reduces the chance of accidentally triggering a purchase or subscription charge against their account:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > Media & Purchases >

Sign-in using your AppleID password - then tap the blue head-and-shoulders icon - and finally Password Settings.
