Carplay Navigation Volume 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with latest update and iPhone 11 with latest iOS 14 update. iPhone is connected via USB and Bluetooth. CarPlay Music playing with volume at an appropriate level. Open Maps, select destination, and then go. Navigation volume then blasts the directions. I have not found a way to lower volume. Volume setting in iPhone’s Maps has no effect.

Use the volume control on the head unit while the navigation app is speaking to adjust the volume on the directions.
