airpods does not have gps

airpods only means of communication is bluetooth so about a 50meters range

the way find my works in terms of airpods is that the iphone use it's own position  last time it had contact with the airpods

You can see AirPods Max in Find My for up to 18 hours inside their Smart Case. Outside of their Smart Case, you can see them for 72 hours.

you could have another personal insurance along with your other insurances with your insurance company which may be able to help you

Modify your Credentials:

Being stollen, someone may have your credentials. So, consider modifying your credentials, immediately.

• Modify: your login credentials (Using Both a New eMail and a New Password for each and all sites)
• Associate: a different method of payment to your account
• Enable: Two-Factor Authentication for Apple ID and for all other accounts that have such an applicable option

Hello again nandia176~Another very common reason why AirPods can't be seen on a Find My map is the battery not being charged . AirPods also cannot be tracked when they are in their charging case. The case itself can't be tracked and when the AirPods are stored within the case…their ability to be tracked is also disabled. Possibly some form of insurance you have may cover the loss but depending on deductible it may be better to simply buy a new pair. I know Apple Care+ will not cover you in this situation. So sorry:( Good luck and maybe they will turn up.
