Wondering where it was that your Samsung wasn't recognised.
eg:
Trying to import from Photos may only work with Mac and iOS devices.
You may be able to use Image Capture to transfer images and video clips to your Mac.
Works for many cameras, iOS devices, iPadOS devices and other devices that have a camera.
You might want to try this article from Apple support.
