Any recommended workaround to get target display in newest OS to work? Maybe a docking station.

TDM is dead and will not work in Big Sur. If you have a Mac or PC that require an external display, please buy one. Trying to get TDM to work in Big Sur is a waste of time and other resources. External displays are cheaper than expensive cabling and are far more reliable than TDM ever was.
