Hello tcarney42! Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your displays aren’t working since upgrading your macOS to macOS Monterey. We'd like to look into this with you to see how we can help.

It was good thinking to start with Connect a display to your Mac. Apple also provides the following resource to help with displays that aren’t connecting: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry on your Mac

If the issue persists, connect with the manufacturer of your display to look into this issue further. It’s possible that the firmware may need to be updated, for example.

Make it a great day!

Ryan: as is often the case, the obvious was hidden as I sought for some fault or operation in software. I suggest you add this to your instructions for trouble shooting displays: "Check to be sure your connections are tight."

Duh! A little wiggle on the connector and the problem I was trying to solve over two days )often repeating the same sequence of steps and re reading the same support suggestions.....) was fixed.

Thank you for your reply!
