data transfer from old iMac to new one.
How do I connect 27" iMac Late 2009 with 27" iMac with Retina 5K display to transfer data?
I read using wifi can be VERY slow!

The simplest way is to connect an external usb hard drive to your old machine, copy your files over, then connect the usb hard drive to your new machine and copy the files onto it. This is purely file transfer.

Please carefully follow the steps in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant. If for some reason the old Mac does not have a Time Machine backup, then make one. You will need an external HD such as a OWC Mercury Elite Pro (macsales.com), you can use the same EHD to use with the new Mac to back it up usingTime Machine.
Always use MA using this method, why?? Simple, it works every time, overall is the quickest method and it is SIMPLE.
Many thanks for your detailed very helpful response.
