I keep having strange photos that I did not take show up in my photo library on my phone.
I've already figured out the solution, but the conversation I found on this topic was closed. So I will answer my own question in a moment.

In my case, I have WhatsApp installed on my phone. It's default configuration allows it to save photos from any conversation I'm following to my device's photo library.
I was able to stop this from going into WhatsApp -> Settings -> Chats and turning off "Save to Camera Roll"
