You can plug in your computer whenever convenient to do so. Leaving it plugged in will not harm the computer or the battery. The computer and operating system manage the power/charging system. Let them do their job without you trying to micromanage.
Use it until you see the battery getting low then plug it in to recharge. There is no rule in when to charge. Use your best judgement in how you use it just like an iPhone.

What to Consider:
I'm always laying mine atop laptop cooler when in use, and I never let the battery go below 70%, when unplugged. Consider doing the same.
