Big Sur stuck on Apple logo

Upon upgrade installation and reboot of Big Sur OS update, install gets stuck on Apple logo with the message “about one minute remaining…” Definitely not one minute remaining.

I would appreciate input as to how to get unstuck. Right now there’s no OS.

Restart in Safe Mode . This may or may not allow the upgrade process to finish successfully.
