Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support

Your Mac might be warm when using certain applications that use lots of resources on your computer. If your Mac is "overheating," your Mac might slow down its processor or shut down unexpectedly. If you're experiencing issues like that, Contact Apple Support for help with setting up a repair on your Mac.

If your Mac is warm to the touch while using it and the fans are loud, you can keep your Mac cool by checking what applications are consuming a lot of energy in Activity Monitor and making sure that you're using your Mac in ideal conditions. Make sure that you aren't using your Mac in a hot or humid environment, that there isn't a cover over your keyboard, and that none of the vents are covered by a case or a pillow or bed you could be using your Mac on.
