System resources a likely being swallowed up, so to speak. So, start with clearing space. Try the following:

II. Cool Down the iPhone:

For a few hours, perform the following...

  • Power Off: the iPhone for a bit
  • Unplug: any Cables
  • Place it Atop: Laptop Cooler
  • Keep it in: an open space
  • Keep it Out of: direct sunlight

III. Clear Space:

Having little empty space can heat things up. So, here is what to perform...

A. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

Also...

B. Clean TV and Music Libraries:

Remove all unneeded files from your TV and Music Libraries. Full-Movies take up 2-4GB typically, and a bunch of those would take up a load of storage, ideally. So, if you have any movies that are not needed, then delete them.

Also...

C. Clear "Other":

Clear the storages named "Other". It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips. Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use.

Why do you keep saying "Other" contains unnecessary files? That is not true, caches, history and cookies aren't just for ease of use and there are many necessary files and space in Other that is required. You can never reduce it to 0. So why don't you reword this to leave out your erroneous opinion?

Before you recommend that people remove Cookies (which will not cause lagging or problems unless fully corrupt) be sure to advise people that some sites they use will no longer work until they add the cookie back. Rarely is a Safari cache going to be large enough to be an issue EXCEPT within Safari itself when having trouble connecting to a site.

If the phone is hot enough that it is causing a problem it will trigger an internal temperature warning and shut down the iPhone, I've never seen an incident where it causes lagging.
