Cannot download attachments from Mail

I have a new MacBook Pro, and it took a lot of Apple Support to get the mail working at all. Now I have mail, but I can't download attachments - I have not been able to download either pdf or docx attachments sent to me.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

I can't choose folders or subfolders to download Apple Mail attachments. Hey there, Something really weird is happening here. Trying to download some attachments, I do that a lot, I wasn't able to see all folders and subfolders, even when I knew they were there. And another issue, downloading an attachment to my Mac, the attachment isn't there if I go to the folder, but I can see it if I open the menu from Apple Mail to download attachments. On the other hand, the Desktop folder is ok, to download attachments, or in any other Apple Mail's attachment circumstances. Any help will be welcome. Best wishes, as always, Federico (aka euskir)

Attachments to email No attachments will load to emails on iMac. Do not even start after appearing in email.

File Attachments Don't Open in Mail Since upgrade to BigSur (11.6.6) I am no longer able to open file attachments in mail by double-clicking. I get a dialog box telling me I need to grant access, see attached screenshot. This is the version that happens for a docx. For an xlsx it opens directly to the file allowing me to grant access. For PDFs it doesn't give me the option at all. Is there a fix for this? Exact same issue as this post except that several restarts didn't fix it and it applies to all files, not just PDFs.

where are you trying to save them? the top-level of the drive is LOCKED!

Your documents or downloads folder inside your Userid folder inside /Users are ready to accept those items.

I got help directly from Apple Support by chat. Turned out that what I needed to do was log out of my connection with the email supplier and then log back in, and that fixed it.
