Files not showing up in folder in Finder - Catalina OS 10.15

Working in a genealogy folder today--saving images from a website. The first image showed up in the folder that I designated. Then I got the spinning wheel of death in preview when I tried to save the second image. Backed out, restarted, saved multiple times and it wouldn't show up in the folder.

I use dropbox so I signed in there and saw both files saved in that folder--but then noticed that multiple other files from that folder were not appearing in finder either!--only showing in dropbox!

Restarting the computer didn't resolve the issue. What do I do? I'll be calling Apple tomorrow!

Let's test in safe mode to see if you can replicate the issue: Start up your Mac in safe mode

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? When did you first notice this? Does this happen with multiple file types? How much available storage do you have on your Mac? Also, which macOS version are you currently using?
