How to change the start time of calendar event without the end time changing automatically?

Is there a setting somewhere that I am unaware of to stop this behavior?

When changing the start time of an event the end time is automatically changed to keep the event length the same. As far as I know I never prioritized the length of every event over its beginning and ending times.

I then have to reset the end time to where I set it before the computer made the decision to modify it. Annoying and a waste of time.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

I've received a response on AskDifferent that is a workaround.

In either the Day or Week view, you can drag the start or end time of the event on the screen without affecting the other. For example, a one hour event from 9am - 10am, dragging the start to 8am makes this a two hour event now without affecting the end time.

Note: The cursor must he a split-arrow for this to work.

I simply want to change the "start time" of an event without the "end time" automatically changing (in order to keep the duration of the event unchanged). I never specified any preference for that default behavior.

What is the point of these types of generic responses?
