No Volume

My MBP (early 2014) did not start, so I had to start it in recovery mode over the internet.

When I try to reinstall OSX, there is not disk to select as target. The same is true when I want to select a start volume. The disk utility dos not show the SSD, either.

The last OS installed was High Sierra.

Originally, the MBP was delivered with Mavericks.

Anything that I could do?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2

Hi axxelk,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re having trouble with your Mac not booting all the way. We’re happy to provide some steps that may help.

To start, make sure you’ve tried the steps here: If your Mac doesn't start up all the way - Apple Support

If that doesn’t resolve your issue, make sure you’re following the steps here for reinstalling macOS: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Per that article, “If the installer doesn't see your disk, or it says that it can't install on your computer or volume, you might need to erase your disk first.”

We hope that helps.

Take care.

Format the disk in recovery first. It won't proceed without the disk being erased, so if you have valuable data on here, go ahead and try backing it up. If you have a second Mac, and you are sure it has the same disk connector, try putting it in and retrieve the data you don't want to lose. If you can't back up data you need to preserve, unfortunately you need to erase the disk to install OS X 10.9.5.
