New M1 MacBook Air base model
When trying to trim a clip in the timeline the laptop freezes(no response from neither mouse or keyboard).
A hard reboot is needed.
The issue reproduced always.
Anyone else experiencing this?
It's probably a good idea to take it in, as Tom said.
But before you do that: do you have Chrome? do you have any "antivirus" or "cleaners"?

The Etrecheck report shows high CPU for CloudPhotos. Is any of the media in your timeline coming from iCloud? Like iCloud Desktop, etc?
It actually freezes the computer.
Can you try this:
It should start stuttering and then comes the freeze.
It was easily reproduced with their MBP.
The technician is totally drunk, he said “yep it’s crashing because you’re using a 3rd party program”, apple technician just confirm that FCPx is a third party software 😩.
Are you using the same clips or does it do it with freshly shot ones? In other words, could the clips be corrupt?
I would also be tempted to delete the preferences as nothing else seems to have worked.
It trims very cleanly, back and forth. My 4K I realize is 24fps. I have 1080 that 120fps, which trims equally well. Is the media 8-bit or 10-bit? 10-bit probably needs to be optimized.
Did you try optimizing the clips to see of it works with that? I’d be curious if it fixed the problem. Or you might try working with proxy media.
Ok, here’s something interesting.
I went to apple store,
And while the guy was running some diagnostics on my laptop, I took my SD card and imported the same footage on their M1 MBP and the problem reproduced!
Maybe this is a codecs issue?
I’ve capture the videos with my Sony a1 and it was 4k 60p XAVC-S.
I'd suggest taking it to an Apple Store if possible.
The base Air is the least powerful of the new M1s. Perhaps the graphics capabilities are less.
Is the media 8-bit or 10-bit? This would be useful information to know.
No, nothing from iCloud drive.
The freeze is reproduced with videos from my a7siii camera, its mp4 4k.
I’ve tried with videos from my iphone and it didn’t freeze.
I know from my experience with m1 mini the m1 should handle it easily.
What FCP version and OS is this?
Is the whole system freezing or just the application. If the application is kernel panicking there is likely a hardware problem.
Interesting, after I’ve optimization it works flawlessly.
but I’m pretty sure my M1 Mac mini can handle the non-optimized version.
