Downloads folder -synch between devices

Can I backup my Downloads folder in iCloud so that it stays synched between my Mac, MacBook Air and iPhone? I just scanned a document using my Mac, then needed it on my laptop, but was unable to access it.

Mac mini, macOS 11.5

Hi Carlos VI,

It appears you'd like to be able to access documents across your devices. You can't sync the specific Downloads folder by itself to other devices, but you can place documents into iCloud Drive, which will stay up to date across all your devices. You can read more about iCloud Drive here:

Best wishes.

Carlos VI,

We appreciate those details. If Desktop & Documents folders is enabled for iCloud Drive, then documents added there should sync across your other devices. It doesn't specifically include the Downloads folder as that is separate from desktop and the documents folder.

If you add documents to your desktop or documents folder and don't notice those syncing, you'll want to ensure that all devices are connected to a strong reliable internet network. iPhone would have to not be on Low Power Mode as that restricts some features: Use Low Power Mode to save battery life on your iPhone - Apple Support

If the issue continues, you can see if restarting all devices involved may help, which may seem like a simple step but it may help with iCloud to sync properly again.

Take care.

Thanks! Yes, I am using iCloud Drive for everything, so I thought the downloads folder was included in that. It definitely is getting desktop and documents. I assumed it included downloads too. I don’t always get everything moved from downloads to the correct documents folder immediately, so I am hoping there is a way to include downloads. For example, I downloaded a doc on my desktop, and needed to finish the job on my laptop a few hours later, and was surprised I couldn’t get to it. Can you help? Do I just not have iCloud set up correctly? Your help is much appreciated!!
