viewing fonts on keyboard viewer

Keyboard viewer makes no sense. I want to use it to search for type ornaments in various fonts. You used to be able to easily view all keys in all fonts with this tool but now there is no option to select a font. Normally I'd use Fontbook but my Mac is with my company and I don't have access to the full system. I can't tell Fontbook to add fonts even though there are hundreds used by InDesign stored elsewhere.

Any help appreciated.

Keyboard Viewer lost its font menu many years ago. You really have to use some sort of font viewer for what you want to do. Have a look at Ultra Character Map or Popchar.
