QuickTime 10.5

What frame rate does QuickTime use when recording a new movie (a capture from 8mm home video), when using the "Maximum" setting (to use the Apple ProRes parameters)?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.5

Thank you for your reply.

I see from the link you posted that in the example used, the fps is 29.97. My problem is that my video camera recorded at 29.97 fps, however Quicktime (at least for the "versions" installed on my system (both of my 27" 2011 iMac running High Sierra as well as the MBP 2019 running Big Sur) records at 25 fps, a PAL standard rather than the 29.97 fps NTSC standard that I desire to match the video tape.

So why would my version of Quicktime run a PAL standard, rather than NTSC? I can find no way to change this setting in Quicktime.

Hey RockyMountaincalculations,

Thanks for getting back to us with additional questions! We'll do everything we can to help you.

There's actually a great QuickTime Player manual online that you can check out with steps that can help you answer your question here: QuickTime Player User Guide

If you need more help, there's also a link you can click on the bottom of the user guide that we provided you.

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply.

I have reviewed the QuickTime Player User Guide and it includes nothing in regards to changing any settings, such as the frame rate.

Also, I note that the link at the bottom of the user guide simply refreshes the webpage and remains at the aforementioned Player User Guide.

I should have included this previously, so sorry for that oops....but here is a screenshot of the video details which shows the encoded FPS as 25.

How can I change this setting, so that QuickTime will record the video at the 29.97 FPS that the movie was originally shot?

Thank you, in anticipation, of any help you can be!!

The video tape is played and output via analog cables (S-video and R+L RCA) from a Sony EVO-250 NTSC player. The cables are connected to a Portta Premium upscaler which digitizes the incoming signals, deinterlaces the signal, and upscales to 1920x1080p resolution. The Portta's output is via HDMI cable to an HDMI to USB-C capture card, which is connected to the MBP. QuickTIme recognizes the inputs as "USB Video Input" and "USB Audio Input".

The Portta converter documentation says, "....Input video systems - NTSC and PAL is automatically detected and adjusted...."
